Former CIA head of counterintelligence James Jesus Angleton, also known as the “poet-spy,” described the intelligence game as a “wilderness of mirrors,” a phrase borrowed from a T.S. Eliot’s poem called Gerontion (the title is Greek for “little old man,” and the poem is an interior monologue that gives the opinions and impressions of an elderly man, describing post-World War I Europe through the eyes of a man who spent most of his life in the 19th century).

In the world of intelligence, in the search for truth, it is difficult to distinguish between reality and its reflection, an illusion if you will, as if you were in a “hall of mirrors”. Blake, the acronym “OBE” is incorrectly explained as “Overtaken By Events”. I hated the first episode

It was too slick and predictable.

I understand some previous reviews with low ratings

It almost seems like they fired the entire writing team and hired a new team for episode 2. Episode 1 had some major technical flaws in terms of the actual technology used. Episode 2 was very well done in terms of pacing, dialogue, and production overall. BUT if they continue to rein in the over-the-top dialogue from episode 1 and drop the formulaic in favor of fluid delivery going forward, which can be so hard to digest, this can be a truly exceptional production, especially with the talent that has joined this production.

The writing and script are everything

Hopefully they can iron out the initial wrinkles and this will be a smash show.
