Story
When a man returns to his beachside hometown in Australia, he is humiliated in front of his teenage son by a local group of surfers who claim ownership of the isolated beach of his childhood. It received a six-minute standing ovation at the 77th Cannes Film Festival. The story unfolds with Cage arriving at a beach that holds great meaning for him. However, when he is ridiculed and banned from surfing there with his son, it sets off a series of events that progressively become detached from reality, leaving the audience to question even the reality we are witnessing. One aspect I appreciate is the exploration of the sunk cost fallacy, the tendency to persist in an endeavor we have invested in even if the current costs outweigh the benefits. Having recently faced a similar decision, I understand how challenging it is to step back and accept a loss. Watching this at the GL Theater with Cage and the rest of the crew was a very enjoyable experience. 😄
